I had a good friend die over the summer in a terrible car accident. I'm not sure I ever had the typical teenage sense of invincibility, so I didn't have that to lose, but I did struggle with the questions of life and its fragility. I still struggle with those though it's been over five months now. There's so much more I could say on this, but I'm not sure if there's much more I need to say. I'm sorry you lost a friend. I hope you find a way to work through this. If nothing else, listen to what you relayed at the end of your post, "Yes, you do [have time]." That's great advice for anyone. Perhaps trying hard to listen to it would be a way to honor and remember Ryan.

It's not that Helvetica is good/bad, it's that it's a tried and true font that, in most cases, is _usable_ and _modern_.

I don't know if Helvetica is really good or bad. I mean, it's good like air is good. It's everywhere and we can't get rid of it or know a world without it. Kind of strange like that.

Agreed. It's really awesome to see politicians using things like Twitter. You and I and others may be on Twitter normally, but it's still in early adoption stage on the brink of going mainstream. Seeing innovative technology used in what is typically considered an old fashioned process (politics/voting) gets me excited for things to come.

I saw the trailer and I like the images,the colors are great, and the sound is cool, I can't wait to know all the new ideas, the new characters and the new features and I hope this game will be as good as the other two.

I find it funny (in my sick twisted sense of humor) that we had similar experiences and similar reactions about 3 hours apart. You're absolutely right about the whole disconnect thing. There are some times when you really should just step out of the stream of information and think for yourself. I think it helps you focus more on the real issues at hand.

I'd posit that Microsoft is a technology company first and foremost, whereas Apple is a design company. I think you're also going to have to define "something great" more specifically. Something that fits your individual needs? But let's see Apple release hotfixes or hold training sessions for companies that depend on their software. That's something great that Microsoft does that just happens to not be part of your user scenario.
Agreed: Microsoft's branding is something of a mess. But good branding does not "something great" make; exhibit A: MobileMe.
